'Trey Zuhn is the other': Texas A&M HC Mike Elko provides interesting O-line update
On Tuesday afternoon, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, alongside OC Collin Klein and DC Jay Bateman, took questions from the media after the program's fifth preseason practice on Monday night, and outside of general progress updates regarding several notable players, Elko revealed potential changes across the Aggies' veteran offensive line. On paper, senior left tackle Trey Zuhn III, who stands at 6'7", is only considered a tackle at the next level by many, but in today's age of position versatility, Elko and O-line coach Adam Cushing are focused getting every offensive lineman on the roster ready for anything that comes there way this season, including injury or poor play that will result in shifting things around. Elko confirmed that Zuhn has been working out at center with Mark Nabou and Koli Faaiu. Again, this does not mean changes are coming before the 2025 season opener vs. UTSA. Still, it does prove that Zuhn is much more versatile than previously thought, which is good news regarding any potential setbacks at center. "We want competition across the offensive line, and I think we're getting it. We have three kids who can play center for us. Mark (Nabou) and Koli (Faaiu) are the two obvious ones. Trey Zuhn is the other." Thanks to Gigem247 beat writer Carter Karels for getting Elko to provide more clarification, he further stated that tackles Dametreous Crownover and veteran Rueben Fatheree could start at both tackle spots, providing more flexibility for the coaching staff to field what they believe is the best offensive line. "We move kids around a lot so that we can always ensure the top five kids are out there." "There is certainly a need to have some flexibility with Trey (Zuhn), and that has been a two-year process." Again, this does not mean that Trey Zuhn won't be the program's starting left tackle once the season begins, but this is just more proof that the coaching staff is wholly focused on fielding the best team possible to help starting quarterback Marcel Reed thrive, and open holes in the running game. 2026 4-star OT commits to SMU over Texas A&M
Texas A&M's offensive line future looks set after coach Mike Elko and O-line coach Adam Cushing signed six offensive linemen in the 2025 recruiting class, while the success continued into the 2026 cycle, as four-star tackles Samuel Roseborough, Avery Morcho, and Zaden Krempin committed to the Aggies over the last week. Still, you can't win them all, leading to Thursday's news that 2026 four-star offensive tackle Drew Evers, who is coming off his official visit to Texas A&M, committed to SMU over the Aggies, Ohio State, Penn State, and LUS which followed Wednesday night's news that rising 2026 three-star OT Aaron Thomas committed to Ohio State over Texas A&M and Florida State. Advertisement Why did Evers choose SMU? The Flower Mound, Texas native, like Aaron Thomas, was likely impacted by Krempin's surprise commitment on Wednesday. As SMU's 2025 starting tackles are both redshirt seniors, this is good news for Evers, who is poised to see the field by his second collegiate season. For the Aggies, there is still a chance Evers changes his mind before Early Signing Day on December 4, It looks like Evers is all in on playing for the Mustangs, especially knowing that Flower Mound is just one hour away from the SMU campus. At Flower Mound High School, Evers has been the starting right tackle throughout his career, and is already a developed run blocker, while his pass blocking skill set still needs refinement. According to 247Sports, Evers is currently positioned as the 28th-ranked interior offensive lineman and the 51st-ranked prospect in Texas.
